Gray Robbins

Mayfield senior Gray Robbins is using the KHSAA mandated ‘Dead Period’ to turn his focus from summer basketball to preseason football.

For high school athletes across the commonwealth, the next two weeks are crucial in many ways as the KHSAA ‘Dead Period’ prohibits any official team gatherings from June 25 to July 9.

For some these two weeks are a chance to rest, reset and get ready for their upcoming 2026-27 athletics season. For others, the work never stops and they do whatever they can to find a field or a gym to keep improving and working out.

Ava Hughes

McCracken County junior Ava Hughes stays busy throughout the ‘Dead Period’ splitting her time between her travel ball responsibilities and while being away from her Lady Mustang team.
