The evidentiary hearing for the potential new trial of Quincy Cross, the man convicted of the 2000 murder of 18-year-old Jessica Currin, began Tuesday with testimony from Vinisha Stubblefield, recanting her previous testimony from his murder trial. 

Defense attorneys for Brooks Houck and Joseph Lawson called four witnesses Wednesday: two expert witnesses to counter the prosecution’s, a coon hunter who was near the Houck farm the night of July 3, 2015, and Houck’s sister.

After six days, the prosecution rested Tuesday in its attempt to convict Brooks Houck of murder and Joseph Lawson of conspiracy to murder in the disappearance and presumed death of Crystal Rogers in 2015.

A McCracken County jury on Thursday found Cocina Penn guilty of murder in her husband’s 2022 stabbing death, and recommended a sentence of life in prison.

William Tabor, a man Cocina Penn was said to be having an affair with at the time she allegedly killed her husband, took the stand Wednesday. Tabor testified that Penn asked if he knew someone who would be able to kill her husband, and he told her no. 

In October 2022, 42-year-old Cocina Penn was accused of murdering her husband, 56-year-old Robert Penn, with a knife. Tuesday, the first full day of arguments in her trial began.
