Quincy Cross enters his evidentiary hearing at the Graves County Temporary Court Facility on Tuesday, Nov. 25. The hearing continues Wednesday.

The evidentiary hearing for the potential new trial of Quincy Cross, the man convicted of the 2000 murder of 18-year-old Jessica Currin, began at the Graves County Temporary Court Facility on Tuesday.

The first day of the hearing included testimony from one witness, Vinisha Stubblefield, who testified in Cross’ 2008 criminal trial both to his guilt in the murder and her own involvement. Stubblefield took a seven-year plea deal before that trial, pleading guilty to evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse.

The evidentiary hearing for Quincy Cross began Tuesday with testimony from Vinisha Stubblefield, who testified against Cross in his 2008 trial and pleaded guilty to evidence tampering and abuse of a corpse. She has since recanted that testimony, claiming she was pressured to make a false confession by law enforcement.

Assistant Attorney General Barbara Maines Whaley led the prosecution for the commonwealth of Kentucky, questioning Stubblefield about her previous testimony and the validity of her claim that the story was fed to her by law enforcement.
