Squirrels tend to be more active when extreme heat fades. Hunters certainly are.

Kentucky’s “fall†squirrel season continues in its second week today, making more sense with temperatures having dropped to more conventional late August levels.

The traditional squirrel hunting period opened as usual last week on the third Saturday in August. But while the late summer opening of the season typically comes with sultry weather, temperatures through the first week have been notably above average — flirting with triple digits.
