The Lyon County Lyons traveled to Eastern Kentucky University over the weekend to compete in the All “A†State championship game where they came home as the state runners-up after 7-3 loss to Owensboro Catholic.
After two early exits from the All “A†Classic tournament in 2019 and 2022, it looked like the third time would be a charm and Lyon County would finally get their first All “A†state title. However, Owensboro Catholic dashed those hopes by dealing Lyon a 7-3 loss in Richmond over the weekend.
Following their triumph in the All “A†Second Region tournament, the Lyons embarked on an impressive 11-game winning streak, highlighted by a commanding 3-0 sectional win over Region 1’s Carlisle County. Lyon continued their winning streak with a dominant 8-2 triumph over Wolfe County in the quarterfinal round, propelling them to the semifinals against Sayre on Sunday. Historically, Lyon had never progressed beyond the semifinals, but a hard-fought 7-5 win over Sayre placed Lyon in contention for their first All “A†Championship just two hours later.
