In winter, a red fox seems larger and can lie in snow to rest for the same reason: A longer, thicker coat of fur, an insulating barrier holding body heat in and frigid temperatures out.

Regardless of what you think about the term climate change, you’d better break out your long johns, and I don’t mean the doughnuts.

For the immediate future, winter’s coming back and it’s not fooling. At the time of this electronic scribbling, I’m not seeing expectations of significant frozen precipitation. What the meteorologists do tell us is coming down the pike are sharply cold temperatures and, at times, brisk winds that multiply the misery.
