Campbellsville University will host 鈥500 Years of the Bible in English,鈥 a two-day free exhibition and lecture series exploring the history, translation, and impact of the Bible in the English language. The event will be held Aug. 25鈥26 at CU鈥檚 Heilman Welcome Center, 404 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
The exhibit will feature rare and original biblical artifacts, including portions of the 1535 Coverdale Bible, the first complete Bible printed in English, and the 1551 Stephanus New Testament, notable as the first edition to include verse numbers. Other highlights include the Tyndale Bible, which predates the Coverdale, an original 1611 King James Bible, and a Jewish Torah scroll from the 1600s.
Visitors will also be able to use smartphones and earbuds to access audio features accompanying each item. CU Interim Dean of the School of Theology, Dr. Shane Garrison, said the collection offers a unique opportunity to experience the Bible鈥檚 preservation through centuries.
In addition to the artifact display, CU鈥檚 School of Theology will host six lectures on Aug. 26 covering topics such as early martyrs, political impacts of translation, the King James Bible, modern versions, and the future of English translations.
The exhibit and lectures are free and open to the public.
