Halloween in July is a playful spin on the traditional October holiday, bringing spooky excitement to the summertime. While it is not a recognized holiday, it has grown in popularity as a fun mid-year celebration that blends the eerie charm of Halloween with sunny weather and education-friendly activities for children.

Halloween means pumpkins. It is not too late to plant pumpkins. Planted early, they tend to become soft, providing a feast for critters and insects before October 31. Plant in full sun, fertilize, well drained soil, 4-6 seeds 1-2†deep in mounds 4’ apart. As the fruit grows, carve designs or names into the skins. Protect from deer, moles, rabbits, and squirrels, who love the flowers, leaves and fruit. However, after the season is over, let the pumpkins and vines rot, improving and nurturing the soil, and feeding the above-mentioned critters.
