POPE COUNTY, Ill. — The 2024 solar eclipse is less than a month away, and rural communities in the path of totality are preparing for an influx of guests traveling to the area.

Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois has been preparing for more than a year to accommodate eclipse visitors.
