The Shawnee National Forest has been selected as a 2024 Leave No Trace Spotlight, one of only 20 such sites receiving that distinction in the entire country.
The Shawnee is being recognized for its outreach efforts to increase awareness of the importance of leaving no trace behind while enjoying the outdoors. That outreach looks like a Leave No Trace Traveling Team in a Subaru, which will be in Herod May 9 through 11, educating the public on Leave No Trace.
