Community members gathered on the lawn of the National Quilt Museum at last year’s Juneteenth celebration.

This Friday, June 19, the Paducah-McCracken County NAACP branch will host its fifth annual Juneteenth FreedomFest. The branch’s First Vice President, Benny Heady, spoke Thursday and offered a glimpse into what he expects the event to bring to the community.

“Juneteenth starts back when President Biden made Juneteenth an official holiday here in the United States,†Heady said. “We appreciate that and, from that year on, we have been celebrating it every year.â€
