Mercy Health — Lourdes Hospital is encouraging residents to learn the warning signs of stroke and seek immediate care as part of Stroke Awareness Month in May.
Strokes are a leading cause of death and long-term disability in the United States. They occur when blood flow to the brain is blocked or disrupted, preventing oxygen from reaching brain tissue, according to a release.
