A 2024 rendering of the Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility — a proposed $1.76 billion project developed by Global Laser Enrichment.

The Kentucky Resources Council, a public-interest environmental law and advocacy organization, is challenging the proposed Paducah Laser Enrichment facility through a petition filed with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, raising two main concerns that the organization says should pause the project until they are answered.

The Paducah Laser Enrichment Facility is a proposed $1.76 billion project developed by Global Laser Enrichment. The project is currently undergoing the licensing process through the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission, or NRC, to re-enrich more than 200,000 metric tons of depleted uranium. If approved, the project would move forward under a 2016 agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy.
