PARIS, Tenn. — The Fourth of July is a celebration of independence, but over the past 12 years, it has become a day associated with gun violence, according to the Gun Violence Archive.

As law enforcement officers across the nation work to keep the public safe over the holiday weekend, it’s also important to prevent false alarms that happen when people mistake the sound of fireworks for gunshots.
