CARBONDALE, Ill. — More than 500 professionals gathered at the Southern Illinois Drug Awareness Conference on Wednesday to collaborate and learn how to improve long-term drug addiction recovery.

The event started in 2004 as a direct response to the methamphetamine epidemic. In previous years, John A. Logan College held the conference. This year, SIU Carbondale is hosting the two-day event.
