A Carbondale, Illinois, woman has been charged with first-degree murder and aggravated arson in connection to a residential fire that claimed the life of a man from Murphysboro, Illinois.

The fire happened on March 21 at a home near the 500 block of South Rawlings Street in Carbondale. Authorities received a 911 call reporting the fire around 4:27 a.m. that morning. Prosecutors said the victim, 45-year-old Brandon Coofer, was taken to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, but he died on April 16 in the hospital because of his injuries.
