People who have become good enough at anything to make it look so easy that others think they can do it know how much work is involved. For most things there is a base line of talent, giftedness, genetics, and opportunity. But that is the starting place. There is no substitute for putting in hour upon hour of study, practice, and being coached.

Performing well when it matters most requires us to be able to do whatever it is without thinking very much about it. This is true in education, politics, sports, medicine, accounting, public speaking, or anything else. This frees our minds and bodies to be creative and handle new situations and new information as it comes to us without causing us to falter. A deep well of knowledge and practice come into their own when the pressure intensifies.
