The Supreme Court ruled in a redistricting case from Louisiana that to accuse a district of purposely discriminating, it must prove intent to discriminate based on race. With Section 2 of the 1965 Voting Rights Act gutted, lawmakers can redraw district lines to reduce minority representation.
Jesse Crenshaw, a longtime Fayette County lawyer and legislator who broke many of Kentucky’s racial barriers, died on Sunday, April 26, after a short illness, his family said. He was 79 years old.
