WASHINGTON — The U.S. Senate voted on a bill Thursday that would renew the , which would provide financial relief to cancer patients exposed to radioactive material. The measure 69 to 30.

The bill would cover out of pocket medical expenses that were not covered by insurance, or $50,000, whichever is greater. In order to qualify, residents need to have had a physical presence in the area, meaning they had a primary residence, worked, or went to school in the .
