I was having a conversation with my son a few days ago. He is a Marine Corps pilot. We were talking about the phenomenon of someone excitedly sharing a brand-new bit of knowledge that they gained with a friend or a parent, and the parent or friend having to resist the urge to respond, “That’s what I’ve been telling you for years.â€

As we talked, he pointed out that it is the way human beings take in information. We may hear something repeatedly; however, it doesn’t hit until we hear it at the right time in the right context. We may remember hearing the words before, but they don’t land until the source and situation line up.
