Nathan Brockett looking at overdose statistics

Brockett overlooking overdosing statistics in the county sent in by McCracken County coroner, Amanda Melton.

released data revealing that children are overdosing at increasing rates over the last 5 years. These preventable overdoses have risen by more than 100%, leaving local officials concerned about the packaging of cannabis products.

The study concluded cannabinoid exposure has increased by 720%, being the most common substance. The three most common substances related to overdoses in children were cannabinoids (28%), fentanyl (19%), and methamphetamine (16%). Findings of the report showed a lack of supervision from parents, leaving medication or substances within the reach of children. The report also noted that the packaging of cannabis products could be misleading for children, due to unclear warnings or risks.
